Weekly Wrap Up! (9/22/18)
- Rockstar Games announced that the online component to the highly anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2, simply referred to Red Dead Online, will have a beta launch sometime in November.
- After being announced earlier this spring, NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 is officially releasing on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC on October 16 for $29.99. The game will include 300 available players at launch, will 200 more to be added later.
- Capcom revealed that through the closing of their Vancouver office, they would be loosing about $40 million from several cancellations of games and projects. Capcom Vancouver was responsible for the development of the Dead Rising games, and no word has been made on the future of the series.
- With the release of the Nintendo Switch's paid online service, some people wondered how that may affect Fortnite. Thankfully, Nintendo stated that the game will remain free-to-play and you will not have to have a paid online membership to play the game.
- A 4K/HD re-release version of the RPG Resonance of Fate will be coming to the PS4 and PC in October.
- With the release of Forza Horizon 4 on the...well, horizon, Xbox revealed that the Day One Car Pack will include both old and new cars featured from the James Bond films. The car pack will be available to be purchased separately in the Xbox Store, or comes as part of the Ultimate Edition of the game.
- SEGA announced that they will be bringing their SEGA Genesis Classics to the Nintendo Switch later this year. The collection will include 50 classic SEGA Genesis titles such as Altered Beast, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Mortal Kombat. The collection will be available in both physical and digital versions.
- Diablo 3 is officially coming to the Nintendo Switch on November 2 for $60. The Switch version will be the Eternal Collection that includes all DLC released for the game, and even some Zelda themed items.
- Earlier this week, developer Rare stated that in order to fine tune the game and fix bugs and ensure a smooth experience, they delayed the release of Forsaken Shores, the latest Sea of Thieves expansion, until September 27.
- YouTube will be shutting down their dedicated gaming app and instead will include a new specific gaming section that will be added to the main website. Their hope is to bring more attention, focus, and easier discovering of all the videos, live streams, and other gaming content on the site. The app is scheduled to be officially taken down by March 2019.
- A Twitter user spotting a listing of PUBG on a Korean ratings board site, which could be a sign that the game is finally coming to the PS4. No official word from developer Bluehole or Sony has been made at this time.
- Almost everyone who plays Fortnite or watches live streams on Twitch knows of Tyler "Ninja" Blevins. On top of breaking several streaming records and having millions of followers, he's now become the first professional gamer to be on the cover of ESPN magazine.
- Earlier this month publisher THQ Nordic acquired the rights to the Kingdoms of Amalur IP and they've just added more IPs to their roster. This week the publisher revealed they also acquired the IPs to Act of War and Alone in the Dark.
- Kingdom Hearts fans have been rejoicing because Square Enix revealed the cover box art for Kingdom Hearts 3. Take a look at it below!
- Developer Telltale confirmed that they have laid off all but 25 of their employees. As of now, no word has been made on the possible cancellations or fate of any of their future games.
- Despite fears and rumors, 343 Industries shared that Halo Infinite will not have loot boxes in the game that can be purchased with real world money.
- Sony announced the release of the PlayStation Classic, which is a mini retro console similar to Nintendo's NES Classic. The PlayStation Classic will release on December 3 for $99.99, includes two replica controllers, a HDMI cable, USB cable, and 20 pre-loaded games including: Tekken 3, Final Fantasy VII, Ridge Racer Type 4, and Wild Arms.
- CD Projekt Red announced that Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales will be releasing on PC on October 23, and on Xbox One and PS4 on December 4. Thronebreaker is a standalone spin-off of the popular GWENT card game that will feature a narrative story, puzzles, and of course card game mechanics.
- Spider-Man on the PS4 is the fastest selling first party PlayStation game of all time by selling 3.3 million copies within the first three days after its launch.
- A brand new survivor, killer, and map have been added to Dead by Daylight. The Shattered Bloodline pack is out now for Xbox One, PS4, and PC for $6.99. Check out the launch trailer below!
