Weekly Wrap Up! (3/30/18)
- Developer Playdead may have been teasing their new game at this year's Game Developers Conference (GDC). Attendees were give postcards asking for interested developers to possible join them on their new project. The postcards had the above image printed on them.
- Microsoft announced the next batch of games coming in April to the Game Pass service which includes: Robocraft Infinity, Hunter: Call of the Wild, Kingdom New Lands, Cities: Skylines, Sacred Citadel, Portal Knights, Late Shift, and ClusterTruck.
- Another new map is on its way for PUBG. The biggest difference? It's half the size of the other two maps currently in the PC version of the game. Developer PUBG Corp. is hoping that this will make matches faster and more hectic for players.
- The free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers for the month of April were announced this week. The PS4 will receive TrackMania Turbo and Mad Max, and the PS3 will be getting Toy Home and In Space We Brawl. Finally, the PS Vita will be getting 99 Vitas and Q*bert Rebooted.
- The next batch of DLC for Call of Duty: WW2 will release on April 10 on the PS4 first. Known as The War Machine, the DLC will feature three new maps (Dunkirk, Egypt, and V2), a new War Mode mission called Operation Husky, and a new Nazi zombie mode called The Shadowed Throne. The DLC is scheduled to release on Xbox One and PC about a month later. The War Machine DLC is part of the game's season pass, or it can be purchased for $15 separately.
- Dead by Daylight developer Behavior Digital announced that their latest game known as Deathgarden would be playable at PAX East next week. The game is a tense 5v1 asymmetrical shooter. A teaser trailer was also released. Check it out below!
- The free Games With Gold for the month of April were announced this week. On the Xbox One, players can download Assassin's Creed Syndicate and The Witness. On the Xbox 360 players can download Dead Space 2 and Cars 2. As always, both Xbox 360 games are playable on Xbox One through backwards compatibility.
- A recent update to Dying Light added a prison heist mode on Prison Island, a zombie Easter egg hunt (now until April 3), and a new deadly enemy named Sgt. Deathrow.
- Developer DrinkBox Studios announced via Twitter that Guacamelee! 2 will indeed be releasing soon on PC through Steam.
- THQ Nordic is releasing a remastered version of their game Red Faction: Guerrilla on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC this year. Known as Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered, the game will feature native 4K support, enhanced graphics, and will include all original DLC for the game. Anyone who own's the original game on Steam can upgrade to the Re-Mars-tered edition for free. No specific release date has been given at this time.
- Sony dropped the price of the PSVR bundles by $100 permanently in the US. The Doom VFR bundle will now cost $300, while the Skyrim VR bundle will now cost $350. Also, the PSVR starter pack has been dropped to €300 in Europe.
- In more PUBG news, a new update for the PC version of PUBG is allowing players to test out the upcoming weapon skin system. Players can acquire different weapon skills via in game loot boxes known as Triumph and Raider boxes. Triumph loot boxes are random weekly loot boxes that can be purchased with real money game keys, and Raid loot boxes are not random and don't require game keys to open.
- Bethesda released a patch for 4K support for Doom this week on both Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. Now taking out demons with a shotgun or swift punch to the face will look even prettier!
- The Uprising event is returning to Overwatch beginning April 10 and will focus on Tracer along with the Overwatch group members. Blizzard has shared that there are more than 100 loot box items to earn during the event.
- The latest God of War game will absolutely make use of the PS4 Pro by providing 4K visuals and a performance mode to make the game run even smoother. However, it was confirmed by the game's director, that owners of the PS4 Pro who haven't upgraded to a 4K TV can still benefit from the performance mode.
- The space exploration game No Man's Sky will be releasing on the Xbox One sometime this summer. The game will feature Xbox One X support with both 4K and HDR enhancements.
- Microsoft announced that Sea of Thieves has become their fastest selling new IP of this current generation. The game also reached 2 million players during the first week.
- Far Cry 5, the latest game in the series, released this week and with it came a brand new launch trailer showing off the game's characters, environment, and crazy action.
