Weekly Wrap Up! (2/17/18)
- Developer CD Projekt Red confirmed that they will be at E3 this year, but would not comment on whether or not they'd be sharing any details or footage of their highly anticipated upcoming game Cyberpunk 2077.
- The free roam mode known as Alldrive released this week in an update for Need for Speed Payback. The Alldrive mode will allow players to gather together in a hangout mode and drive around Fortune Valley.
- Microsoft released an update to the Xbox app for iOS and Android devices that added the ability to use party chat with both voice and text features.
- It was announced that Splatoon 2 is the first Nintendo Switch game to sell 2 million copies in Japan.
- Looking to get a PSVR headset? The PlayStation blog revealed that the base PSVR headset will be on sale for only $200 from February 18 to March 3 at retailers such as Best Buy, Target, Walmart, and GameStop. Also, the Doom PSVR bundle will be on sale for $300, while the Skyrim PSVR bundle will be on sale for $350.
- The annual QuakeCon event will take place on August 9-12 in Grapevine, Texas. The event is said to reveal some sneak peaks of upcoming Bethesda games, tournaments, company exhibits, announcements, and more.
- Capcom announced that Blanka will be added to the roster in Street Fighter 5 in the next DLC on February 20. You can get Blanka for $6 or 100,000 Fight Money. You can see Blanka in action in the trailer below.
- In a recent investment phone call, Shigeru Miyamoto stated that Nintendo is interested in prolonging the average lifespan for consoles beyond the typical five or six years with the Switch. How long they'd like to do that was not specified.
- A free update to The Evil Within 2 released this week that added a first person mode for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
- Those wishing to see some characters from the Pirates of the Caribbean show up in Rare's upcoming pirate game Sea of Thieves may be disappointed. Rare confirmed that they won't be adding any DLC related to the movie franchise.
- Bandai Namco revealed that their upcoming game action RPG Code Vein will indeed have multiplayer support where players can group up with others and send out requests to have others join in for help.
- At the launch of Dragon Ball FighterZ, the game quickly became the highest played fighting game on the PC on Steam with 44.3K active players. However, reports have shown that after only two weeks since the game's launch, only just over 9,000 players were actively player over the past weekend, which is a 80% drop.
- Rare revealed the PC specs for being able to successfully run their upcoming game Sea of Thieves. Thankfully it looks like (for the most part) you'll be able to run the game on older PCs. Also, you can of course play the game on Xbox One. Take a look at the different PC specs and settings options for the game below.
- Nintendo Switch fans hoping to be able to play Hearthstone on their consoles are in for some sad news as Blizzard confirmed that they have no plans to release the popular card game on the Nintendo Switch.
- Developer Psyonix announced that tournaments will be coming to Rocket League this spring, with a beta for the tournaments running from February 21-23 on Steam.
- Gaming site Kotaku has revealed that several sources of theirs informed them that Activision is developing a Spyro the Dragon trilogy that will include: Spyro the Dragon, Ripto's Rage, and Year of the Dragon. The rumored remastered Spyro trilogy is set to release on the PS4 first, followed by other platforms at a later date.
- Ubisoft has stated that they are focusing on continued support and new DLCs for Assassin's Creed: Origins at the moment rather than concentrating on a new game for the franchise.
