Weekly Wrap Up! (12/2/17)
- Bungie released a free trial of Destiny 2 for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC earlier this week. The trial features the beginning level of the game's campaign as well as the competitive multiplayer. Any progress players earn in the trial will transfer over to the full game if purchased.
- Sony revealed that they will be shutting down the online service to Demon Souls on February 28, 2018. Once the servers are shut down the online components of the game such as online invasions, cooperation, and messages from other players will be gone. Players can still play the game and summon NPC characters for help.
- PUBG on mobile? Developer Bluehole and publisher Tencent are working on bringing PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds to smartphones. The mobile version of the game in talks will release in China first. No information on the release date or a release in other territories has been given at this time.
- Earlier this week developer Gazillion Entertainment shared via Twitter that because they were closing down, they would no longer be able to keep the online servers for Marvel Heroes functioning and the game will no longer be available immediately. Marvel Heroes was originally planned to shut down on December 31.
- The Xbox's free Games with Gold for the month of December were announced. On the Xbox One players can download Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide and Back to the Future: The Game. On the Xbox 360 players can download Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death and Child of Eden. Both Xbox 360 games are backwards compatible on Xbox One.
- Square Enix revealed that there will be three new pieces of DLC releasing for Final Fantasy XV. One of the DLCs will feature the game's protagonist Ardyn, but information about the other two DLCs has not been revealed at this time. Additionally, the Episode Ignis DLC will release on December 13 as well as another December update that will allow players to switch and control other characters in the party. - Developer Bluehole revealed their latest game, Ascent: Infinite Realm, is a steampunk fantasy MMO where players will explore various floating islands on a planet. No release window has been announced at this time.
- The platformer Yooka-Laylee will release for the Nintendo Switch on December 14 digitally with a physical release to be determined later. This comes as good news to Nintendo fans since the Wii U version was canceled.
- People love catching Pokemon! The Pokemon Company announced that with the recent release of Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon, the franchise has sold over 300 million games worldwide.
- Developer Atlus confirmed that their RPG Shin Megami Tensei 5 will release outside of Japan on the Nintendo Switch, but no price or release date has been given.
- The free PlayStation Plus games for the month of December were revealed. On the PlayStation 4 players can download Kung Fu Panda: Showdown of Legendary Legends and Darksiders 2: The Deathinitive Edition. The PlayStation 3 will be getting Xblaze Lost: Memories and Syberia Collection. Finally, the PS Vita will be getting Forma.8 and Wanted Corp.
- The president of CD Projekt Red revealed that their upcoming game Cyberpunk 2077 will indeed be using the company's same game engine used in Witcher 3 but with some upgrades.
- In more PUBG news, the upcoming desert map will be debuted live at the Games Awards on Thursday, December 7.
- The lead producer on the online survival game DayZ stated that the game will be moving out of early access and will finally be releasing on both Xbox One and PS4 sometime in 2018.
