Weekly Wrap Up! (11/17/17)
- There's a disturbance in the Force. In response to fans' criticism, EA lowered the points needed to unlock Star Wars Battlefront 2 heroes by 75 percent. Then, in a sort of surprise move, EA removed the microtransactions from the game in order to properly address the game's current multiplayer state and decide how to move forward.
- Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus' $25 season pass includes three waves of DLC and more details on the content has been released which includes:
- The Adventures of Gunslinger Joe will release December 14, and will see players taking the role of former NFL quarterback Joseph Stallion fighting against the Nazis in Chicago.
- The second batch of DLC The Diaries of Agent Silent Death will release on January 30, and players will take the role of former OSS agent Jessica Valiant who is fighting the Nazis in California.
- The third and final DLC, The Amazing Deed of Captain Wilkins, will release in March 2018 as players take on the role of US Army Captain Gerald Wilkins as he fights the Nazi Operation Black Sun in Alaska.
- Microsoft revealed that the update for Xbox avatars (Avatars 2.0) has been delayed until early next year in order to provide extra time on the new avatar features.
- The free to play game Trove received a new expansion earlier this week for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The new free expansion added new mounts, weapons, a new dungeon, update tutorial section for new players, and more.
- Sony will be releasing a Doom VFR PSVR bundle beginning December 1 for $400. The bundle will include the PSVR headset, a PlayStation camera, a copy of Doom VFR, and a PSVR demo disc.
- GameStop announced that they are delaying the launch of their used game rental program due to a few unforeseen program limitations. No comment on when the program will now launch.
- Interested in playing StarCraft 2? Good news! Blizzard announced that anyone can download and play the game for free, including the whole Wings of Liberty campaign.
- Activision revealed that while the microtransactions "Call of Duty Points" for Call of Duty: WWII were supposed to release this week, they have now been delayed until November 21.
- The CFO of EA stated that the company will be launching their own streaming service within the next 2-3 years and is working alongside a currently unnamed partner on the service.
- Warner Bros. announced that several free DLC updates will be coming to Middle-Earth: Shadow of War over the next few weeks. Content in the free updates includes an enhanced photo mode, brutal difficulty mode, online fight pits, and more. The first update will be available on November 21, followed by the second on December 5, and the third on December 12.
- The next expansion for Path of Exile will release in December and is called War for the Atlas. The new expansion will include a new story, 32 randomized maps, new items, skills, gems, and the Abyss Challenge League. War for the Atlas releases on December 8 on PC and shortly after on Xbox One.
- The horror game SOMA from Frictional Games is finally releasing on the Xbox One on December 1, and with its release comes a new "Safe Mode" where players can focus on the story without having to worry about getting killed from the game's enemies. The safe mode will arrive as an update on the same day on the PC and sometime later for the PS4.
- Earlier this week Bungie held their first of three live streams to introduce Guardians to the new content in the upcoming Destiny 2 expansion, Curse of Osiris. Take a look at the new cinematic revealed below.
