Weekly Wrap Up! (9/2/17)


- Sony revealed that they will be releasing three translucent DualShock 4 controllers inspired by similar controller designs from the original PlayStation. The crystal controller will be available at GameStop, the red controller will be at Best Buy, and the blue controller will be available at Walmart. All three controllers will be in the mentioned stores for $65 beginning this month.

- The wildly popular game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds temporarily became the highest number of concurrent players that any other game on Steam earlier this week by passing Dota 2.

- Itching to play more Shovel Knight? Developer Yacht Club revealed that the final campaign for the game, King of Cards, will release in early 2018. The campaign will include 30 new courses and new worlds.

- Developer Supermassive Games announced that their upcoming PlayStation VR titles The Impatient and Bravo Team will release on November 21 and December 5 (in that order).

- The multiplayer melee combat centered game Absolver released earlier this week on the PS4 and PC. Check out the official launch trailer below!


- When asked whether or not the second season of their Game of Thrones game would be coming soon, developer Telltale said that it would be a while before it would release. They stated that right now they are focused on working on the new content for The Wolf Among Us and Batman.

- Sony announced a new bundle for the PlayStation VR headset. The new bundle now includes the PlayStation camera and costs $399. The new bundle will take the place of the previous launch bundle that did not include the camera.

- Earlier this week Microsoft confirmed that they have discontinued the original Xbox One model. Microsoft will continue to put more emphasis on the Xbox One S and X model of the console.

- Fire Emblem fans can rejoice as Nintendo announced that Fire Emblem Warriors will release on the Switch on October 20. A special edition of the game was also announced that includes three CDs, 25 character art cards, and a poster.

- The free PlayStation Plus games for September were announced earlier this week. For the PS4, people can download Infamous: Second Son and Strike Vector Ex. On the PS3, the games Handball 2016 and Truck Racer will be downloadable. Finally, the games We Are Doomed and Hatoful Boyfriend will be downloadable on the PS Vita. It's also worth noting that the PSVR game Rigs: Mechanized Combat League will be free to download from September 5 through November 7.

- The Division will be getting a free update later this fall that includes both a new PvP and PvE mode, as well as a new social space. The new PvE mode comes in the form of a four player horde-like mode known as Resistance. The new PvP mode, known as Skirmish, is a team deathmatch mode where two teams of four compete to see who can get the most kills before time runs out. Finally, the new social space and area is known as West Side Pier.


- The zombie slaughtering game Dead Rising 4 will be releasing on the PlayStation 4 on December 5. The game was released in December 2016 as a timed Xbox exclusive. The PlayStation 4 edition will include all previously released DLC and a new mode called Capcom Heroes where the main character Frank can where various outfits and used special abilities based upon Capcom characters.

- Nintendo and Suda51 announced that No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again will exclusively be coming to the Switch in 2018.

- The upcoming Battlefield 1 expansion, In the Name of the Tsar, will release on September 19. Anyone who owns the premium pass or Battlefield 1 Revolution can play the expansion starting September 5. The expansion will cost $15, or is included with the premium pass. Also, Battlefield 1 will be receiving HDR support with an update.

- The pirate themed game Sea of Thieves will be playable in 4K on Xbox One X and PC, but if you don't have a monster PC gaming rig, don't worry. Developer Rare has stated the game offers a mode to support 540p and 15fps.

- Love Sonic the hedgehog? Sega announced that Sonic Forces will release for the Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on November 7.

- With Destiny 2 releasing on consoles next week, a new live action trailer was released for the game. Check it out and all its Cayde-ness below!
