Weekly Wrap Up! (5/5/17)
- People love Overwatch! Activision Blizzard announced that Overwatch has become a billion dollar franchise.
- Nintendo announced that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch is the fastest selling game in the franchise. On its release the game sold 459,000 copies in the United States alone. Global sales have not be released at this time.
- Capcom announced that the beta test for Street Fighter 5's Capcom Fighters Network will take place May 11-14 on both PC and PS4. Even better, you don't have to own a copy of the game to play it. Also, the game features cross-play ability so both PS4 and PC players will be able to play against one another.
- The Kizumonogatari anime series is being made into a PlayStation VR experience, but only in Japan at this time. Sony has not revealed if it will be available in any other territories at this time.
- Nintendo shared that in order to help ship more Nintendo Switch units to try to meet launch demand, they shipped some by plane in addition to freights over sea. Nintendo commented that shipping by plane costs about an additional $45 per unit.
- Bandai Namco released a new trailer for their upcoming Dark Souls-like game Code Vein. Check it out!
- A new update for Horizon: Zero Dawn is releasing next week that hosts various game fixes and enhancements to the photo mode like being able to pose Aloy, new filters, grid frames, HUD customizations, and more.
- PlayStation Plus members in the United States can download a demo of Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 for a limited time. The full game releases on May 26 and once it releases, the demo will be unavailable to play.
- The 2v2 arcade basketball game NBA Playgrounds will release for the Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on May 9 for $19.99.
- Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia for the Nintendo 3DS will have five packs of DLC including new dungeons, story content, maps, and classes for the game. You can buy the packs individually or get them all in the $45 season pass.
- Darksiders 3 was officially announced this week. The game is set to release sometime in 2018 and a brand new trailer accompanied the announcement.
- Valve is releasing a co-op campaign to Dota 2 called Siltbreaker. The campaign will be in two parts, with part one releasing this month and part two releasing sometime in July.
- Activision Blizzard revealed that over 70 million people have played Hearthstone and to celebrate, Blizzard rewarded both old and new players with card packs.
- If you've never played Tom Clancy's: The Division and are still interested, Ubisoft has made the game free to play until this Sunday (May 7).
- Survival game The Long Dark will finally be moving out of early access mode and officially releasing on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC on August 1.
- Bethesda released a new video for the upcoming Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind to show off a little bit of what's to come while getting a little nostalgic. Get ready to revisit Morrowind on June 6 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
