Weekly Wrap Up! (4/8/17)
- Square Enix revealed that Nier: Automata has passed over 1 million units in worldwide shipments and digital sales.
- Do you enjoy supporting and backing games in Kickstarter? Apparently a lot of people do. A report revealed that over 10,000 games (video games and board games) have been supporting raking in $613 in total funding.
- Marvel's Vice President of Digital Media stated that the PS4 exclusive Spider-Man from Insomniac Games would be releasing this year, but Insomniac Games quickly stated that there were no official release dates or window to announce.
- A free trial for Dishonored 2 was released this week for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The trial lets player try out the game's first three missions as either Corvo or Emily. Any progress made in the trial will carry over if you decide to purchase the full game.
- All four of the Jak and Daxter games will be releasing for the PS4 sometime this year within the PlayStation store. The games includes are: Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Jak II, Jak 3, and Jak X: Combat Racing. The games will feature 1080p upscaled visuals and trophy support.
- Warner Bros. released a new trailer for highlight some of Catwoman's attack moves in the upcoming fighting game Injustice 2. The game releases May 16 for Xbox One and PS4.
- Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata revealed that Square Enix is working on DLC to delve deeper into the past of the game's antagonist Ardyn Izunia. No specific details or launch date was revealed.
- The upcoming 1.05 update for For Honor released on PC which brings several updates and fixes to the game such as boosts not spawning until after 20 seconds of an Elimination match, attack and defense moves not applying in revenge mode, various bug fixes and more. - Alex Hutchinson, director of Assassin's Creed 3 and Far Cry 4, has left Ubisoft to form his own studio called Typhoon Studios.
- Head of Xbox Phil Spencer teased a screenshot of the Phantom Dust remaster. Spencer stated that the 30 FPS in the screenshot was not indicative of the final frame rate for the game.
- The once PSVR exclusive game Batman: Arkham VR will be releasing on the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive on April 25.
- Darksiders: Warmastered Edition will officially release on the Wii U on May 23 for $20. This edition will include the original game with HD visual upgrades and better performance.
- An open beta for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III will run from April 21-24 and will allow players to test out all three of the game's factions. The full game releases on April 27 on PC.
- Developer Volition released a new "Bad vs Evil" trailer for their upcoming new action game Agents of Mayhem. The game is set to release on August 15 in the US and August 18 in Europe for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
- A demo for Dragon Quest Heroes II is now available for the PS4. The demo features four (out of the 15) playable characters and a chance to try out some of the game's combat and quests.
- According to the official Crackdown 3 Twitter page, new information on the game is on the horizon and more news will be releasing much more frequently in the coming months.
- With the overwhelming positive success of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, series producer Eiji Aonuma stated that the open world setting would be the basis of future games in the series.
- Microsoft revealed the tech specs of the Xbox Scorpio this week. For those of you who like the fancy tech jargon, the specs include:
- Memory: 12GB GDDR5
- Memory Bandwidth: 326Gbps
- CPU: 8 custom x86 core processor clocked at 2.3GHz
- GPU: 40 customized compute units at 1,172MHz
- Hard Drive: 1TB (2.5 inch)
- Optical Drive: 4K UHD Blu-ray
