Weekly Wrap Up! (2/11/17)
- Netflix announced that they are making a Castlevania animated series and it will release sometime this year. The series is described as "Castlevania in the realm of Game of Thrones" and will be rated R. So fans of the games can rest assured knowing there will be plenty of vampire and monster slaying violence.
- Blizzard has commented that they object to players using a mouse and keyboard while playing Overwatch on consoles, and have even reached out to both Sony and Microsoft to express their concerns of players using input devices allowing the use of a keyboard and mouse.
- In a recent developer diary video, Ubisoft stated that they will be adding a free loot system to Rainbow Six Siege in a future update of the game's season 2 content. The more players play the game they will be rewarded with free loot packs to earn in game items like weapons and gear.
- The VR Star Trek game, Bridge Crew, has been delayed again. The game was scheduled to release in March, but now has a release date of May 30 for PS4 and PC. It was also confirmed that the cast from Star Trek: The Original Series will be playable in the game.
- Microsoft released the official launch trailer for Halo Wars 2 earlier this week. The game launches on February 21 for both Xbox One and PC, but anyone who buys the Ultimate Edition can start playing the game on February 17.
- Developer The Coalition announced the the February update for Gears of War 4 will add two new maps and an improvement to Guardian mode. The two maps are Impact Dark and the original map War Machine. In the Guardian mode players will be now respawn on their leader and not the original spawn point.
- Blizzard revealed that World of Warcraft players can now use WoW tokens for Battle.net and use the funds towards other Blizzard supported games.
- Playground Games, developer of the Forza Horizon series, announced that they are opening a second studio and will be working on a new game. All that is known about the new game is it's being referred to as Project 2 and will be a non-racing open world game.
- Ubisoft released a new launch trailer for the brutal melee combat centered game For Honor highlighting more of the game's three warrior factions. For Honor releases on February 14 for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
- Harmonix announced that Rockband VR will release on March 23 on the Oculus Rift.
- Developer Funcom announced that their game Conan Exiles sold 320,000 copies within its launch week, and has already made enough money to recoup its development costs thus far.
- Tim Schafer of Double Fine stated that Starbreeze Studios will be publishing Psychonauts 2, but Double Fine will still own the rights of the IP. Psychonauts 2 is slated to release sometime in 2018 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
- Fallout Shelter released on the Xbox One and Windows 10 PC earlier this week for free.
- A brand new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released earlier this week to show more of the game's environments, battles, and to get fans even more hyped for the game's release on March 3 for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
- Resident Evil 7 has shipped 3 million copies since it's release. The game shipped 2.5 million copies during the launch week.
- DICE announced that until March 15, anyone who buys the $50 Premium Season Pass for Battlefield 1 will get a free upgrade to the deluxe edition of the game which adds a variety of in game items.
- In more Psychonauts news, developer Double Fine announced that anyone who pre-orders the upcoming VR game Pyschonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin will get the original game for free.
- Project Cars 2 has been confirmed to release sometime in late 2017 for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The game will feature over 170 cars, full VR support, and the ability to play in 12K resolution on PC (if you're even capable of doing so!). Check out the announcement trailer below.
- Users on Reddit uncovered information regarding the possible next expansion to Blizzard's wildly popular card game Hearthstone. The expansion is titled The Lost Secrets of Un'Goro which has lead people to believe some dinosaur themed content will be coming to the game.
- South Park: The Fractured But Whole has been delayed again and won't release until sometime during Ubisoft's next fiscal year, which runs from April 2017 until March 31, 2018. Let's hope it won't be until next year!
- If you missed out on the closed beta for Ghost Recon: Wildlands don't worry. Ubisoft announced that an open beta will be held sometime in the coming weeks before the game's launch on March 7.
- A new trailer for the new upcoming spring update for Final Fantasy XV was released showing some of the Gladiolus and Promto chapters. It's time for the bros to start another adventure!
