Final Fantasy XV: First Impression

This is a little overdue, but it's time for another Gamers On a Rant first impression. In this first impression we'll be taking a look at the latest game in the long running Final Fantasy series, Final Fantasy XV. Or also known as, Extremely Well Man-Scaped Bro Fest XV. I'm kidding. But seriously, if you're able to fight giant monsters while wielding magic weapons and abilities, and still look like that afterwards, then you're doing something right.

First, let me say that I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to the Final Fantasy series. My first experience with Final Fantasy was playing Final Fantasy VII, and I've played most of Final Fantasy X. That's it. However, that is something that I found to be great with Final Fantasy XV. Just as it states when you start the game, Final Fantasy XV is a game for fans and first timers. I believe that's true because I think it's a game that both fans of the series and people who have never played the series before can really enjoy.

Part of that strong enjoyment for me comes from the game's combat style. Personally I've never been a big fan of turn based combat. That's not to say I hate it, but it's never been my favorite combat style in games. Final Fantasy XV uses what I call a "live action" combat style. This means that the game plays like a third person action game and that is something that I love.

The combat does take some getting used to because it can be pretty in-depth, but once you get a hang of it the combat flows perfectly in the game. Just like any good RPG, you'll earn experience to level up and upgrade not only Noctis' (the main protagonist) abilities, but all of your teammates' abilities, weapons, magic spells, and yes even new outfits as well.

It goes without saying, but graphically this game is absolutely gorgeous looking! From the character animations, their clothing, the environment, the weapons, everything has such a great level of detail to it. So major kudos to everyone at Square Enix for developing such a fantastic looking game.

The world of Final Fantasy XV is huge and you can spend a ton of time roaming around finding random enemies, collecting materials, finding treasure, as well as side quests and hunting bounties. I've put in well over seven hours into the game and I'm still only in the first chapter.

So that's going to be it for this first impression over Final Fantasy XV. If you're a fan of the Final Fantasy series there's no doubt you've been playing Final Fantasy XV and beat the main story and all the side missions. However, if you're new to the series and you've watched videos or streams of Final Fantasy XV and liked what you've seen, it's definitely worth trying.
