Most Anticipated Games of 2017
With the beginning of each new year there is the excitement of looking into the upcoming months and anxiously awaiting the release of new games. There were many great games released in 2016, and there doesn't look to be any shortage of exciting game releases coming in 2017 either. Even though there are many games to look forward to playing this year, the games on this list are just some of my most anticipated games (in no particular order).
Let's face it, the Resident Evil series has taken a bit of a dive in the past few years. However, ff the demo for Resident Evil 7 has been any indication of what to expect with the final version, Resident Evil 7 is definitely going to be a creepy, scary, and tense filled experience. The game has a true survival horror feeling that makes the player inch down hallways and fear what's around every corner. I feel like this is going to be the game to bring both old fans of the Resident Evil series back, and new fans as well. Thankfully the wait for this game isn't long as it launched on Xbox One, PS4, and PC next week on January 24.
What can be said about Mass Effect: Andromeda other than BioWare take my money now! The Mass Effect series has always captivated me with it's story, characters, alien worlds, choices, and action. The pure interaction you have with other characters in the game and how that shapes the story is definitely a strength and joy of this series. Mass Effect: Andromeda looks to continue all of that and even build upon the already fantastic multiplayer mode that was featured in Mass Effect 3. March cannot come soon enough.
Ghost Recon: Wildlands is a game that I'm remaining cautiously optimistic about. The large open world setting certainly has its appeal, and the gameplay footage shown of tactically planning out your team's attack to take down enemies looks really cool. Ubisoft has announced a beta will be arriving before the game's scheduled launch of March 3. This is a game that I can see being a blast to play with friends online. Hopefully that turns out to be the case.
I love a good horror game and the original Outlast has been one of my favorites. The game dripped with gritty and horrifying atmosphere and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. There were so many moments where I literally jumped in my seat and found myself tensed up as I ran and hid from one of the insane asylum's many terrifying inmates. Playing the demo of Outlast 2 was both familiar and refreshing as the game takes place in a completely different setting and with a different character. The story seems intriguing and the jump scares are all there. I'll definitely be playing this game on day one.
This was a game that pretty much immediately drew me in when it was first announced and I saw the 80s inspired game trailer. The whole "cat and mouse" survival gameplay with Jason and the camp counselors sounded incredibly fun. Last month I was able to play the PC beta and I was absolutely hooked! The gameplay was so intense trying to hide and escape from Jason as a counselor. Working with other players just added to the excitement. Playing as Jason gave me that hunter feeling and tracking down counselors was a blast. While the game holds some similarities to Dead by Daylight, Friday the 13th: The Game seems to offer more customization to both Jason and the counselors regarding inventory items, abilities, strengths/weaknesses, character models, and more. Plus, the sheer 80s vibe is just too cool...I mean totally rad.
I've said it before, but it bares repeating. Matt Parker and Trey Stone are absolutely brilliant. The way they make fun of society and its idiocy at times is second to none. Couple that with their purposefully immature humor and there's no reason why South Park has lasted as long as it has. The Stick of Truth was an amazing game, and especially one for fans of the show. It literally looked like you were watching and interacting with an episode of South Park. However, the gameplay mechanics and RPG elements actually worked really well too. The Fractured but Whole is taking the same core elements of The Stick of Truth, but now incorporating the super hero theme, and I simply cannot wait to play this game, love it, and laugh the entire time.
Crackdown. Oh you wonderfully fun game. Leaping across buildings, picking up cars, upgrading my agent to become more bad ass, and hunting all those little orbs across a giant city never got old. What little that has been shown of Crackdown 3 looks to take what was amazing and down right fun with the first game and make it even crazier with fully destructible environments and super agent mayhem. I have high hopes for this game and I'm pretty confident that Microsoft will deliver the goods.
To say I want to play this game right now would be an understatement. The original Red Dead Redemption is still one of my favorite games I've ever played. The large open world, the western frontier, lawmen and bandits, and of course the characters and story just drew me into the game. Plus, the multiplayer mode was even more fun on top of the already incredible single player. I have no doubt that Red Dead Redemption 2 will only build upon the first game's success and awesomeness. From the image above it also looks like the game may take a sort of "Magnificent Seven" route too. Take my money know Rockstar!
Yes, the whole zombie video game scene is extremely over saturated and has been so for a while now. But that doesn't mean there still can't be good zombie themed games. While not a ton is known about Days Gone, I was very impressed and excited with what I saw at last year's E3 conference. Days Gone gives a total The Last of Us vibe and the sheer amount of zombies rushing towards the protagonist on the screen certainly gets the adrenaline pumping. It'll be interesting to see how the game shapes up, but I'm looking forward to it.
So what games are on your most anticipated list for this year? No matter what type of games you play, I think it's safe to say that there are games for everyone to enjoy. Warm up those controllers people, we're going to have some fantastic games to dive into this year. Game on!

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

When For Honor was first revealed I was instantly intrigued. Sure, the concept of putting vikings, knights, and samurais in the same world is pretty far fetched, but it's still awesome. Seeing these iconic and historical warriors bash into each other in total brutal melee combat is exciting. Getting to play the alpha last fall only got me more hyped for the game. Graphically the game looks fantastic, gritty, and the combat is both in depth but accessible once you get a feel for it. Couple that with customizations, various multiplayer modes, and even a campaign and I'm all in for this!
