Weekly Wrap Up! (12/17/16)
- The latest update for Battlefield 1 was released earlier this week for Battlefield Premium member, and will arrive for everyone else on December 20. The update adds the new Giant's Shadow map, a grenade crossbow, and a new spectator mode.
- Microsoft has partnered with Dolby Laboratories and will be releasing Dolby Atmos sound to the Xbox One and Windows 10 next year.
- In the first batch of DLC for Final Fantasy XV, the character Gilgamesh (a boss in Final Fantasy V) will be making a return. The first DLC is being called Episode Gladiolus and no release date has been given at this time.
- Developer Darkflow Software announced a new World War II squad based multiplayer shooter for the PC called Enlisted. The game's campaigns can be purchased as stand alone games with either the Battle of Moscow or Normandy costing $22 along with some digital items. You can purchase both along with digital items for $50. The game isn't available yet, but anyone who pre-purchases the game can get early access to the beta in the second half of 2017. - Turtle Rock Studios has partnered with Perfect World Entertainment to create a new first person shooter that has dark fantasy elements and a focus on co-op.
- To celebrate the 300th backwards compatible game on Xbox One, Microsoft has made the JRPG Lost Odyssey free for Xbox Live subscribers to download until December 31, 2016.
- Ubisoft confirmed that their upcoming melee action game For Honor will require a constant online connection. This is partly due to the progression system being shared between both the campaign and online multiplayer.
- Sony announced that Horizon: Zero Dawn will release on March 1, 2017 in the UK, which is two days earlier than originally announced. The game will still release on February 28, 2017 in North America.
- Xbox's Major Nelson revealed via Twitter that Xbox One games can now be streamed to the Oculus Rift through the Xbox One app.
- The fifth and final episode for the first season of Telltale's Batman game released this week on consoles, mobile devices, and PC. The final episode is called City of Light and a cool new trailer was released this week as well.
- A free expansion update for Uncharted 4 was released this week that added a ton of new content such as new multiplayer maps, weapons, character skins, taunts, vanity items, co-op trophies, and more.
- A patent for the Nintendo Switch was discovered online that reportedly shows the capability of VR headset support.
- The final piece of DLC for Doom released this week for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The Bloodfall DLC adds three new multiplayer maps, the playable demon Spectre Pinky, hack modules, grenade launcher, and other customizations.
- The latest update for the Xbox One promises to increase download speeds. Anyone with download speeds above 100Mbps should expect an increase of up to 80%, and those with download speeds less than 100Mbps should expect a download increase of up to 40% faster.
- Steam now fully supports the PS4 DualShock 4 controller.
- The Gearsmas holiday pack released for Gears of War 4 this week. The pack adds ugly Christmas sweaters, a snowball fight mode, new weapon skins, and more. The Gearsmas pack costs 400 credits or $0.99. Check out the trailer.
- A new update for Final Fantasy XV will release next week that adds a new game plus mode, new photo frame feature, and more.
- Nintendo revealed that the NES Classic sold almost 200,000 units within the US alone since its release.
- The light-hearted platformer Yooka-Laylee has a release date of April 11, 2017.
- Star Wars: Battlefront was the latest game added to the EA Access service this week. Anyone with an active subscription to EA Access can play the entire game for free.
- The first campaign trailer for For Honor was released giving a little insight into the single player and co-op story and the factions within the game. Check it out below warriors!
