Weekly Wrap Up! (10/8/16)
- Microsoft announced that anyone who has played any of the Gears of War games and is a Xbox Live Gold member will receive a special legacy emblem and an Operations Pack that contains at least one customization item and four cards. The code for the operations pack will be sent out through Xbox Live messages and the code must be redeemed by December 31, 2016.
- A promotion for Resident Evil 7 was spotted to show that the PSVR will have exclusivity to the VR aspect of the game for 12 months. The regular non-VR version of the game will still be available on Xbox One and PC. As of now, Capcom has not confirmed the 12 month exclusive PSVR rights.
- Fans of the game The Escapist will be glad to know that both Team17 and Mouldy Toof Studios announced that The Escapists 2 will release for Xbox One, PS4, and PC in 2017. The big addition for the new version of the game is multiplayer featuring drop in/out co-op with split screen and online modes, as well as versus modes.
- Rocksteady revealed that the PSVR game Batman: Arkham VR will take about two hours to complete, but it's worth playing multiple times to see everything that was developed for the game.
- Ready at Dawn, developer of The Order: 1886, announced they are working on a new game for the Oculus Rift called Lone Echo which features both single and multiplayer modes. A trailer was also released for Lone Echno.
- Tis the season! The demo for Outlast 2 is now available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The demo will only be available until November 1 so go download it now if you haven't already!
- Director of Xbox, Phil Spencer, stated that while the Xbox Scorpio is a premium product and console, consumers should not worry about the pricing because it won't be priced unlike other consoles seen in the past.
- Playtonic Games announced that anyone who backed the Kickstarter game Yooka-Laylee will be able to upgrade their pledge to a disc based version of the game. Yooka-Laylee is scheduled to release in Q1 2017.
- Respawn Entertainment confirmed that the remake of the Angel City map in Titanfall 2 will be free for everyone in December. Anyone who pre-orders the game will get access to the map three days earlier and receive the Nitro Scorch Pack that includes a special callsign and warpaint.
- The first monthly batch of DLC for Forza Horizon 3 was released this week. Known as the "Smoking Tire Car Pack," the DLC includes seven new cars. The DLC is part of the game's season pass, or it can be purchased for $7 on its own. Check out the trailer below.
- The split-screen mode in For Honor has been cut in order for better support for online co-op and other AAA features.
- According to the Xbox Store, a Halloween themed loot boxes will be added soon to Overwatch and run through November 1. Blizzard has yet to confirm this.
- An image of the box art of the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Legacy Edition surfaced online that showed that a whopping 130 GB of space will be required in order to install both Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered.
- In more Xbox Scorpio news, Xbox platform chief Mike Ybarra restated that the Xbox Scorpio will be 100% compatible with existing Xbox One games and there will be no Scorpio exclusive games other than games that may include special features like VR support.
- Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration releases for the PS4 on October 11 and developer Crystal Dynamics released a launch trailer to show off the features that will be included in the game. Check it out!
