Game Spotlight: Gears of War 4

In the latest Game Spotlight we're highlighted the latest game in the widely popular Gears of War series. While those who bought the Ultimate Edition have been tearing through the game over the past four days, Gears of War 4 has officially released and brings about it several changes in terms of the story, gameplay mechanics, and multiplayer.

The story of Gears of War 4 takes place 25 years after our favorite COGs destroyed all the imulsion on the planet Sera and also the lambent and locust horde with it. Even though getting rid of the locust and lambent was a good thing, the lack of imulsion has caused humanity to seek out new ways of collecting fossil fuel to create energy and survive. To prevent humanity from dwindling down to nothing, cities were sectioned off by walls where the COG forces won't let anyone venture out of. Naturally, some people resist and decide to live outside the walls and fight against the COG.

The story sees new characters such as Marcus Fenix's son J.D. and his friend Del who team up with the Outsiders led by Reyna. Naturally a new enemy known as the Swarm surfaces, and it's up to J.D., Del, Reyna, and even good old Marcus himself to save humanity once again.

Some of the new features in Gears of War 4 includes new execution moves like: the "close cover combat" mechanic and combat knife weapon, and players will now earn credits to use on purchasing Gear Packs to unlock cards for new characters and weapon skins. Cards can be destroyed to earn a form of in-game currency known as Scrap to create individual cards. Also, the fan favorite Horde mode is back with a few new twists.

Also, since Gears of War is a Microsoft Studio produced game, Gears of War 4 is another game to feature Microsoft's Play Anywhere feature. So anyone purchasing the game digitally on Xbox One will be able to play the game on their Windows 10 PC and vice versa.

So what are you waiting for soldier? Get on your gear, grab your lancer, and let that chainsaw roar! Gears of War 4 is available now on Xbox One and PC. Oh, and encase you missed it, check out the launch trailer below.
