Weekly Wrap Up! (7/15/16)
- Sean Murray from Hello Games has stated that they are already working on the first update to No Man's Sky and that the game has passed certification in the US, Europe, and Asia. Also, the entire game is said to only take up 6GB of space.
- According to Eurogamer, the remastered Batman: Return to Arkham collection has been delayed until at least November.
- Blizzard has said that in Overwatch's Competitive mode, teams will not be able to consist of more than one specific character. This will not be implemented in the Quick Match mode.
- In order to use the Kinect and its features on the new Xbox One S you'll have to buy a $40 adapter. This is due to Microsoft removing the Kinect port in order to make the Xbox One S slimmer. If you already own a Xbox One with the Kinect, you can request the adapter for free from the Xbox website.
- The Summer Games Done Quick event was able to raise $1.29 million for the Doctors Without Borders charity.
- While no specifics have been announced, Paramount Television has obtained the rights to produce a show based upon the Battlefield game franchise.
- Developer Psyonix is bringing a paid loot crate reward system to Rocket League. The loot crates will be cosmetic only items and won't give players any sort of advantage in the game. More details about the loot crates are supposed to be announced near the Rocket League Championship Series August 6-7. Here's an image of the loot crate and what appears to be a key card.
- Bungie announced that the final day the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Destiny will receive updates will be August 16. After August 16, Destiny on the Xbox 360 and PS3 will no longer receive any major updates or new content releases.
- Despite Xbox Australia posting a tweet about Sea of Thieves releasing in February 2017, Xbox Games global marketing chief Aaron Greenburg said they have not announced a release date yet.
- Telltale Games announced that Batman: A Telltale Game Series will release digitally in August, and will release on physical disc on September 13 in North America, and September 16 in Europe. The disc will include the game's season pass which grants access to the first episode immediately, then the four other episodes will be unlocked as they release. Batman: A Telltale Game Series will be available on consoles, PC, and mobile devices.
- It's been reported that the open beta for Battlefield 1 will take place shortly after Gamescom, which runs from August 17-21. So that means it's possible the open beta will be late August or early September.
- The newest character for Overwatch has been revealed. Her name is Ana Amari and she's Pharah's mother. She uses a sniper rifle to both heal teammates and deal damage to enemies. Her secondary weapon is a sleep dart that will knock enemies unconscious, as well as a biotic grenade that will heal teammates and damage enemies caught in it's blast. Ana is rumored to be playable by the end of July. Check out Ana's gameplay trailer below.
- Like being a jerk in World of Warcraft chat? Then look out! Blizzard has announced an upcoming system to help stop people from abusing chat in the game. The system is called "The Silence Penalty" and it will be put on a players account that receives multiple reports in the spam or abuse chat categories, and after Blizzard has investigated the claims. The silence treatment will last 24 on the first offense, then double each time thereafter with no cap. Watch your mouth people!
- The soundtrack to the original Killer Instinct is being released on vinyl. The vinyl is called "Killer Instincts Killer Cuts" and features three different covers featuring: Sabrewulf, Fulgore, and Spinal. You can order your copy at: http://iam8bit.com/store/
- Microsoft announced that they will not being holding a traditional press conference at this year's Gamescom. Instead they will be holding what they refer to as a more intimate Xbox FanFest. Microsoft has confirmed that Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, Halo Wars 2, ReCore, Sea of Thieves, and more will be playable. Gamescom will take place August 17-21.
- Nintendo announced they will be releasing a new mini version of the original NES console. It's called the Nintendo Classic Mini and will come with 30 games pre-installed onto the console, one classic controller, and the console will be connected via HDMI and a USB cable (both included). You can get your hands on the mini NES on November 11 for $60.
- Grow Up, the sequel to Grow Home, will be available on the PlayStation Store on August 17.
- A recent update for the PC version of Doom has allowed for Vulkan support, which will allow developers more control over hardware and lead to a better performance. iD Software says being able to use Vulkan will improve the game on both high end and lower end graphics cards.
- Sony stated that nearly all PSVR titles will support the DualShock 4 controller, while only some games will require the Move controllers.
- Since going free-to-play on the PC a week ago, Evolve: Stage 2 has seen more than 1 million new players. To celebrate, developer Turtle Rock Studios is giving away the Griffin Blood Eagle character skin for free for any player who logs into the game now through July 18 by 10:00 am PT. After that time the character skin will be delivered to players.
