Weekly Wrap Up! (7/17/15)
- EA confirmed that there will be no splitscreen co-op play on the PC version of Star Wars: Battlefront. This is regarding the game's non-competitive co-op missions. The Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game will support local splitscreen co-op though.
- Comcast has partnered with EA to release a video game streaming service called Xfinity Games. You can sign up for the beta at the Xfinity Games website.
- Fans of the creepy Five Nights at Freddy's series will be happy to know that the fourth and latest game in the series had its release date pushed up, and will now release on August 8.
- Microsoft announced that the Halo franchise has sold over 65 million units across the span of the three Xbox consoles.
- Rocksteady announced the next set of DLC for Batman: Arkham Knight for the Xbox One and PS4. Releasing in August, season pass holders will get the 1989 Movie Batmobile Pack that includes the Batman skin and Batmobile from the 1989 Batman film, and two new tracks. The second piece of DLC is the The Bat-Family Skins Pack that includes the following alternate timeline character skins: 1990s Catwoman, One Year Later Robin, Grey & Black Batman, Arkham Origins Batman, original Arkham Nightwing, and 1970s Batman.
- PlayStation 4 and 3 owners will be happy to know that Goat Simulator will release on both consoles on August 11. The game is currently available on the Xbox One and Xbox 360.
- Activision released the Prototype Biohazard Bundle on the Xbox and PSN marketplace. It costs $50 and includes remastered versions of both games and all DLC. It's available now in North America, and while the Xbox One version is available in Europe, the PS4 version won't be available until July 22.
- Developer NeocoreGames announced they will be releasing the action-rpg Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor-Martyr next year on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
- The developers of Shenmue 3 have said they are unsure if the game will be released on physical discs in stores. While the game will be available digitally, as of now only people who pledged at least $60 to the Kickstarter campaign will receive an actual disc copy of the game. The developer also teased a video. - PlayStation Mobile officially shut down on July 15, 2015. The platform originally launched in October 2012. PlayStation Mobile no longer releases content, and the ability to re-download previously downloaded content will end on September 10, 2015. This affects the PS Vita and any PlayStation specific Android devices.
- Telltale announced that episode five of their Game of Thrones series called "A Nest of Vipers" will be available on PS3, PS4, and PC on July 21, and the Xbox 360 and Xbox One version will be available on July 22.
- It was announced on the PlayStation Blog that there will be a demo released for the Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection sometime this summer.
- The $250 Limited Collector's Edition of Halo 5: Guardians only comes with a digital copy of the game and not a physical disc copy. Many fans were upset by this and 343 Industries has confirmed that they will allow those who have a digital copy of the game will be able to exchange it for a physical copy at no charge.
- Sadly, Nintendo's CEO Satoru Iwata passed away. He'll be remembered for his passion, creativity, love for video games, and all the fantastic games he's given us. A favorite quote of his that rings so true is, "Above all, video games are meant to just be one thing: Fun for everyone.”
