Weekly Wrap Up! (8/1/14)


- Developer Deep Silver has purchased all the rights to the Homefront franchise from Crytek, and they will now be taking over development of Homefront: The Revolution.

- Microsoft annouced the free Games With Gold titles for August. The Xbox One will get Crimson Dragon and Strike Suite Zero: Director's Cut. The Xbox 360 will get Dishonored and Motorcross Madness.

- Respawn Entertainment released the second DLC map pack for Titanfall this week. The Frontiers Edge DLC includes the maps "Export," "Dig Site," and "Haven." The DLC is $9.99 or part of the season pass. Also, the latest update for Titanfall added the black market that allows players to buy burn cards and insignias with in game currency. 

- Sony announced the free games for August for PlayStation Plus subscribers. The PS4 will be getting Road Not Taken and Fez. The PS3 will be getting Crysis 3 and Proteus. Finally, the PS Vita will get Metrico and Dragon's Crown (North America) and Lego: Harry Potter Years 5-7 (Europe).

- Even though the Destiny beta is over, Bungie and IGN released a video showing off a new multiplayer Crucible map called "Twilight Gap" that will be playable in the full game on September 9. Check it out!



- It was announced the the Dungeons and Dragons based MMORPG Neverwinter will be releasing on the Xbox One this year in China, and then will release worldwide in the first half of 2015. The game will be free to play with a Xbox Live Gold account. Developer Perfect World has not mentioned if the game will release on other platforms.

- Microsoft announced that a physical retail version of Killer Instinct will be releasing in stores on September 23 for Xbox One. It will cost $20 and include all eight characters from season one, as well as a code to unlock the character TJ Combo.  

- Some lucky PC gamers will be able to play the Evolve alpha this weekend (August 1-3). 2K stated that more alpha tests will be conducted in the future, but no word on if those alphas only include the PC. 

- Fans of Guardians of The Galaxy and Minecraft rejoice! Playable character skins of the five guardians will be available in the Xbox One and Xbox 360 versions of Minecraft. No official word on if the character skins will be released on other platforms.



- Activision revealed that over 4.6 million people played the Destiny beta.

- Developer Snail Games announced that they will be releasing their martial arts based MOBA game King of Wushu to the Xbox One. No word on an official release date has been given.

- Sony released the 1.75 software update for the PS4 this week that added the ability to play 3D Blu-Rays. Microsoft announced in mid-July that the Xbox One would be getting 3D Blu-Ray support as part of the August software update.

- EA announced the EA Access program for Xbox One. For $4.99 a month or $30 a year, subscribers will gain unlimited access to certain EA games, a 10 percent discount on EA digital games and content, and early access to trials of new EA games a week before they are released. Subscriptions will be available to purchase on Xbox Live, Amazon, or in GameStop stores. EA Access is in beta right now but EA has said it is set to release soon.

- A new trailer for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was released earlier this week. The trailer gives a little more back story on the Atlas Corporation. The trailer also gives an extremely quick glimpse of the game's multiplayer in action and shows that a multiplayer reveal will happen on August 11.
