Weekly Wrap Up! (1/31/14)
- A retailer in France put up posters that reveal information on a
possible Titanfall beta in February. The posters say the beta will begin
on February 14. Respawn Entertainment responded on Twitter saying the
beta is happening and more information will be announced soon.
- Sony announced a new PS4 and PC program called "All Access" in which players can pay a $14.99 monthly fee to have access to all titles such as DC Universe Online, Planetside 2, and the upcoming EverQuest Next.
- Microsoft officially published the rights to Gears of War from Epic Games. This of course means the series will remain an Xbox exclusive.
- Sony announced that Killzone: Shadow Fall has sold over two million copies since its release.
- DICE is hoping to ease Battlefield 4 players' frustration by having a "Player Appreciation" program the whole month of February. Any week day when players log into the game they will receive a free bronze battlepack. Players logged in on Saturdays and Sundays will receive a silver battlepack. Gold battlepacks can be earned through specific DICE community events.
- Bethesda announced that anyone wanting to play The Elder Scrolls Online on the PS4 will not have to have a PlayStation Plus membership. Also, the PS4 servers will be separate from the PC servers.
- The collector's edition of The Elder Scrolls Online was officially announced. Known as the "Imperial Edition", it includes a statue of Molag Bal, art book, map of Tamriel, and in game items such as a white imperial horse, mud crab pet, and a pair of Rings of Mara. People who purchase the Imperial Edition will also get to play as an Imperial regardless of their alliance. The Imperial Edition will cost $99.99.
- Sony unveiled the free PlayStation Plus games for the month of February. PS+ subscribers on the PS3 will get Metro: Last Light, Remember Me, and Payday 2. The PS Vita will get Modnation Racers: Road Trip and Street Fighter X Tekken. Finally the PS4 will be getting Outlast as the free PS+ game.
- Microsoft is reportedly working on an update/patch for the Xbox One that will increase the GPU. Right now 10 percent of the GPU is used for the Kinect. The reported patch will free up 8 percent for gameplay use, and keep the other 2 percent for Kinect voice features.
- Respawn Entertainment shared that Bluepoint Games is developing Titanfall for the Xbox 360. Bluepoint Games developed the Ico and Shadow of The Colossus Collection, God of War Collection, Flower for the PS4 and PS Vita, and more.
- Respawn Entertainment also revealed that they will be able to release the majority of Titanfall updates server-side. This was actually done during the alpha test with three server builds being rolled out and players were even moved from one server to another without any interruption to gameplay.
- Warner Bros. has canceled the upcoming campaign dlc for the Wii U version of Batman: Arkham Origins due to lack of demand.
- Nintendo announced that the 2DS has sold 2.1 million units since its launch last October.
- Microsoft announced that Dead Island and Toy Soldiers: Cold War are the two free games in the Games With Gold program for February.
