Gaming Spotlight: The Last of Us
The Last of Us is yet another example of how awesome video games can be. I've been keeping an eye on this game for a while but then started to let it slip onto the back burner of my mind. Then when I saw the E3 demo it was back on my radar. The story of The Last of Us takes place 20 years after a fungal infection has been spreading across the world. This virus has not only killed people, but reanimated their dead bodies to come back to life as "infected." Survivors are kept in quarantined areas and if they are found to have the fungi infection, they are killed on the spot. You play as Joel and are tasked with the job of taking care of a young girl named Ellie. You and Ellie escape one of the quarantined areas and are trying to outrun the military. You'll travel across abandoned cities where nature has reclaimed its place.
Throughout the game you'll encounter enemies ranging from scavengers, hunters/rebels, military, and of course those who are infected. The game plays out from a third person perspective and is an all out action/adventure game. You'll be able to mix ingredients together to create items all in real time. This means that when you are trying to use a med pack or create an item, the game doesn't stop. So you'll have to carefully plan the times you'll do this. The only downfall right now is that the game isn't coming out until sometime in 2013. The people over at Naughty Dog seriously know how to create a fine game. Both visually and story driven, The Last of Us looks like an incredible game. Watch the sweet E3 demo below (courtesy of Ve3tro Games Media) to get a glimpse of why you'll need to add this game to your PS3 library.
