Gears of War 3: Let the imulsion fly!
Gears of War is a great game series. What else can be said about it? Every game in the series is full of action, explosions, gun fights, and more. The third and final game in the trilogy does not let down at all. To me, Gears of War 3 is the best in the series. I have loved all of them, but I really was excited while I played the third game. Everything about it is just so well polished. It's clear that the extra months Epic took to work on the game were well worth it.
The story of Gears 3 is just as war ridden and bleak looking as the others. The once praised, glowing fuel source known as imulsion has spread throughout the planet Sera. This spreading of imulsion has infected the locust (known as lambents) and humans, which has turned them into mutated terrors. On top of that you still have the regular locusts to fight off. Oh, and you also find out your father isn't dead! The Coalition of Ordered Government (COG) have been spread thin and the remaining humans blame you for the trouble in the world. Needless to say, you aren't the most popular group of soldiers. Speaking of soldiers, there are some new characters that fight along side you.
These new characters include the two lovely/tough women Anya and Sam. There's also another Carmine in the mix (I won't spoil if he lives or dies) as well as a young and eager soldier named Jace. The new characters are all a nice addition and add their own flavor to the story. Another great thing about your teammates is that they actually help you in the campaign. Your A.I. teammates will help take out enemies and revive you if you are down. There were only a few instances where my teammates didn't revive me. You can also select a specific target for your teammates to attack and it works well. This is something other developers need to pay attention to.
Graphically Gears of War 3 is great looking. As soon as I started the first chapter I could tell how much more polished the graphics were. Everything looks crisp, detailed and amazing. The texture and lighting effects make everything in the world look realistic and the environments themselves are varied and (to borrow the phrase) the destructed beauty shines through every inch of the game. The music adds the epic feel and the sounds of the weapons and enemies are top notch.
There's even more to love about Gears of War 3 with the co-op campaign and all the multiplayer goodness you've come to love. You have your standards such as team deathmatch, capture the leader, and warzone. There's also a slight twist on the beloved horde mode. In horde 2.0 you now earn points/currency that you'll use to build up reinforcements. This adds a tower defense feel to it. There's also the addition of beast mode. This allows you to play as the locusts and you get to kill humans. The beauty of multiplayer is that it runs very smoothly due to Epic's dedicated servers. So far, in all the online matches I've played everything was like buttah!
Gears of War 3 is a great game. 'Nuff said. It's a great ending to one of the most popular gaming series. The campaign will take you anywhere from 10-20 hours depending on how much you search for hidden gems. After that you'll come back for more with co-op campaign and all the multiplayer modes. Epic has already talked about dlc which will just add more awesomeness to the game. If you own a Xbox 360 go out and get this game. You'll love it. Now if you excuse me, I need to rev up the chainsaw on my lancer and kill me some more locusts!
Final Verdict: 10/10
