Say what Capcom?!
Every now and then a game company announces something that shocks us. It could be something awesome or it could be something ridiculous. This is one of those times where gamers are shocked...but not in a good way. Earlier this week gaming company Capcom announced that it's new game Resident Evil: Mercenaries 3D for the Nintendo 3DS would have a 'one time save' feature. What this means is exactly what you're thinking. Once you finish the game, you won't be able to erase the file for another playthrough. Anyone who you lend the game to or buys it used won't be able to either. Essentially you will be able to play the game one time.
The supposed purpose of this tactic is so that people will not be able to resell their copy of the game. It's known that gaming companies don't like the selling of used games. It cuts into their revenue and Capcom is trying to put a stop to that. Even though I have bought used games, I can understand why gaming companies don't like people buying used games. However, to charge people $40.00 for a new game that can only have one save file and that's it? Seriously Capcom! I can see this hurting the company in the long run. I seriously doubt gamers are going to jump on this wagon and feel great about it. I think some gamers will even boycott any Capcom games just out of sheer frustration of this. We will just have to see how it all pans out. Hopefully this idea will flop and Capcom, or any other company with similar ideas, won't continue this trend. So what do you think about this?
