Two different ways to let the bullets fly!
Greetings fellow gamers! A couple weeks ago two demos were released for two big titles this year. The games are Bulletstorm and Crysis 2. If you're not familiar with either game both of them are first person shooters (fps) and that's where the similarity ends. Yes you're going to be blasting the crap out of people in each game, but it's the way you blast people is what makes these two games so different. So you guessed it! In this rant I will be talking about each demo and how the two games play out.
The first game I'll talk about is Bulletstorm. This game is developed by People Can Fly studios. If you like your shooters to be realistic and serious then you probably won't like this game. Bulletstorm is anything but serious. It's guns blazing, in your face, comical mayhem to the finest. For example, one of your main weapons is a leash. You use the leash to grab enemies and either pull them towards you or whip them into the air. Which ever you choose to do with the whip you will then be able to pull off some very lethal and awesome combos. Time slows down allowing you to blow your enemies apart. Want to shoot a person in the balls and watch them squirm? You can do that! Want to kick an enemy back into some spikes and impale them? You can do that too! This game is all about finding ways to pull off combos to earn points. You will be able to compare your score with friends online too. That gets to my next part. Bulletstorm will have online multiplayer including co-op modes. The demo only allows you to play one level but you will find yourself playing it over and over to see if you can beat your last score. If you enjoy a shooter with humor and insanely gory finishing moves check out Bulletstorm.
The next game I'll talk about is of course Crysis 2. This is being developed by Crytek studios. Now this game is more on the serious side. The demo was only a one map multiplayer demo. After reaching the top rank (10) on the demo and playing several matches I really enjoyed this game. The best way I can describe the Crysis 2 demo is that it's as if Call of Duty and Halo Reach got together and had a baby...yeah chew on that image for a while. Crysis 2 borrows from the Call of Duty side by allowing your character to rank up, unlock new weapons, attachments, and other goodies. The Halo Reach side comes from the different armor, or nanosuit, abilities you can use. You can have increased speed, extra armor, and even a cloaking (invisibility) mode. These all come in handy but I found myself using the extra armor ability the most. There is another ability you can use that was kind of cool. While jumping and in mid-air, you could preform a power slam and kill enemies by smashing down on top of them. There is a downside though. If you haven't downloaded this demo it is no longer available. The demo was taken down on February 5th. So you'll have to wait until the game is released to play it.
So there you have it. Two shooters that play very differently. Both demos were a lot of fun and I will be getting both games myself. Hopefully this rant will shed some light on both games and get you interested in them if you weren't already. Bulletstorm is being released on February 22nd, and Crysis 2 will be released on March 22nd. Get ready to lock and load!
