Albion is calling. Will you answer?

Hey there! Here's the first blog of the new year. I've been meaning to write this review for a while but never got around to it until now. This rant I want to express my feelings on Fable III. I loved Fable II and had high hopes for the third edition to the series. I can say with complete confidence that I have found Fable III to be even better. If you don't know the story, Fable III takes place years after Fable II. You play as either the son or daughter of your character in Fable II. You find yourself as the prince or princess of Albion. You're brother, who is the current king, is a tyrant and must be stopped. There are similarities between the two games. You still complete quests for the main story line, and there are plenty of side quests to complete for villagers. You still have a lovable dog that follows you around too.

You can interact with villagers, get married, buy property, have kids, etc. You can choose to be good or evil through moral choices and actions, and your appearance will change accordingly. There's still the little gold trail to help you find your way to your next destination and you can still fast travel from the world map. I've always loved the little glowing trail feature because I sometimes have a tendency to wonder off to explore other areas. Just like in the other Fable games, the world is large so it's easy to get lost or sidetracked. There is even a whole new area that you can complete quests in called Aurora.

There are some differences from Fable II that are really nice additions. The weapon system is something different and I really like it. The more you use a melee weapon or gun it will actually change in appearance and become stronger. Then there are the magical attacks (my personal favorite) that are just as fun to use against enemies. You can combine magic attacks together to create some pretty lethal combinations. I love mixing shock and fire together! Another excellent addition is the sanctuary. Just by pressing 'start' you will jump into your own sanctuary where your loyal butler (voiced by funny man John Cleese) is always eager to help you. From the the sanctuary you can change outfits, weapons, hair style, tattoos, visit the shop to purchase items, and access the world map to view quests and fast travel. This is much nicer than fumbling through a boring menu system.

I think Fable III has something for everyone. The hardcore gamers will enjoy the shooting, melee battles, and hurling magic attacks at their enemies. The rgp fans will enjoy the many quests, customization, and large world to explore. The game is full of humor too. While the game is not perfect I personally didn't find much at all to complain about. I will gladly continue to sink more hours into this game. There has already been one dlc pack released and I'm sure there will be more in the future. I highly recommend it to anyone. Now go and become a hero or villain. The choice is yours.

Final Verdict: 9/10

  1. I've never played the Fable games before. Fable 3 sounds amazing. Is there an online mode for this game or is it strictly a 1 player campaign game? How complicated are the controls to use magic in this game?

  2. Yes there is online co-op multiplayer. I can't believe I forgot to add that in the review! The controls for using magic are super easy. All you have to do is press 'B' and you'll be a magic master in no time!
